The 5 at 5 5 minutes, 5 stories, 5 o’clock.

Every weekday evening, TheJournal.ie brings you the five things you really need to know by 5pm.

1. #FIANNA FAIL: Micheál Martin has unveiled his new shadow cabinet today. What a difference a few months make in politics – ten weeks ago, Martin was appointing a different front bench, only three of whom retained their original briefs today.

2. #GARDAI: Members of the Garda Siochana have voted unanimously today at their annual conference to look for the abolition of the Garda Reserve force.

3. #NAMA: The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal today by developer Paddy McKillen that Nama’s operations are unconstitutional. Meanwhile, Nama chairman Frank Daly has said that it is considering lending in order to kickstart the property market again.

4. #ITALY: Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has admitted giving €45,000 to a teenage erotic dancer – but claims the money was to help her buy laser hair removal equipment.

5. #NICK LEESON: In his first column for TheJournal.ie, Nick Leeson – the man who lost $50m in one day as a trader – wonders why no-one has yet been sent to jail for the Irish banking collapse. Read his column here.
