TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY has delivered his annual Christmas message to the country in which he praises the people of Ireland for their efforts to get the country back on track.
In a video released on the government’s Merrion Street website this morning, the Taoiseach talks about the huge sacrifices that many people are making, saying it is being done “so decently and so generously – indeed, so honourably”.
As with last year’s video, the message focuses on the impact of the recession on people.
The Taoiseach notes the ‘huge sacrifices’ that many people are making, singling out the parents of young children as being particularly affected by austerity. He also mentions the difficulties faced by many people who have had a family member emigrate. “Skype is no substitute for the hug of a dearly-loved child or grandchild,” he says.
