Barry Heneghan on Glúin Z

TD Barry Heneghan to feature in new TG4 reality series about Gen Z

TG4 is airing a new series called Glúin Z about the lives of young people in Ireland.

TD BARRY HENEGHAN is making another foray into the world of Irish television – this time on a show about Gen Z.

TG4 is airing a new series called Glúin Z that it says will give a “unique, honest and entertaining” look at life for young people in Ireland.

The series follows twelve young adults as they “navigate the hurdles of striking out on their own: in a period of broadening horizons, newfound independence and life-defining decisions about education, careers, and relationships”.

One of the participants is Barry Heneghan, a first-time TD in his 20s who was elected to the Dáil for the Dublin Bay North constituency last year.

It’s been a busy year for Heneghan; elected to Dublin City Council in June 2024 and then to the Dáil in November – but also making his reality TV debut earlier this year on dating show Grá ar an Trá.

The second season of Virgin Media’s Grá ar an Trá filmed last year shortly after Heneghan was elected as a councillor and aired in March of this year.

Heneghan will now feature in episode four of Glúin Z, which will focus on the “future, the challenges, and the opportunities” that face the generation.

In an interview with The Journal earlier this month, Heneghan said that as a young TD, he often gets underestimated, “but being younger obviously brings more energy, you haven’t really been told no as often as other public representatives” .

“And I am able to speak up for a generation and people are always happy to see me speak up,” he said.

The show will “meet young people at different stages of their lives, featuring stories on student life, personal, career and business challenges to action confronting the urgent challenges of the environment and the soaring cost of living”.

Alongside Heneghan, the other 11 participants are Colm Ó hÓgáin, Aoibhín Ní Dheagha, Sinéad Ní Riain, Máirtín Ó Cathasaigh, Seán ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald, Cúnla Ní Bhraonáin Morris, Tadhg Ó Griffin, Franz Sauerland, Méin Nic Craith, Clódagh Ní Mhocháin, and Aoife de Bhál.
