A TEENAGE GIRL who died after falling ill at a Belfast music festival on Sunday has been named as Tipperary native Mia Keevan.

The 17-year-old, from Carrick-on-Suir in Co Tipperary, has been described as a “bright, fun and much loved girl who touched the hearts of anyone that knew her”.

Her funeral Mass will take place in Carrick-on-Suir this coming Saturday.

A second person also died after attending the festival on the previous night.

Trae Joseph Keenan (24) had attended the Emerge music festival at Boucher Playing Fields on Saturday before going back to a rented apartment where he was staying with friends.

His sister told The Irish News that Trae became ill several hours after returning to the apartment from the concert.

Police attended to the apartment in the Wellwood Street area of Belfast city centre on Sunday morning, in support of colleagues from the Ambulance Service.

Trae was taken to hospital and later died.

A PSNI spokesperson said enquiries are ongoing.

A PSNI investigation is also underway to establish the circumstances surrounding Mia’s death.

Mia was one of three people who attended the Emerge dance festival on Sunday to be hospitalised.

The other two people, a woman in her 30s and a boy in his teens, remain in hospital after falling ill at the same event.

The woman in her 30s is in a “serious but stable condition”, while the teenage boy is expected to make a full recovery.

“Police will continue to work closely with event organisers and the licensing authority to ensure that events remain safe and enjoyable for all of those in attendance,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe has been organised to “support Mia’s Family with the unexpected costs they face and to give them space to grieve without added financial worry”.

“Mia was such an outgoing person and lit up every room she walked into,” said the GoFundMe page.

It added: “Her laughter and warmth will never be forgotten by those lucky enough to have known her.”

Mia’s funeral will take place on Saturday morning at 10.30am at St Nicholas’ Church in Carrick-on-Suir, followed by burial afterwards in St Mary’s cemetery.

Her family have requested that mourners attending Mia’s Funeral wear bright coloured clothing.

In the funeral notice, Mia’s family said that the teenager “had big dreams and an even bigger heart”.

“Her infectious laugh, feisty attitude, and ability to make anyone smile will never be forgotten,” added the notice.
