IF I HAD the money I’d buy…
A tech-laden car with buckets of presence, performance and practicality. One of the most talked about cars of the last decade, and one that lives up to the hype. I’d buy a Tesla Model S.
Why a Tesla Model S?
The Tesla Model S is a very sleek and sexy all-electric sportback that has the performance of a sports car as well as the spaciousness of a family motor. The liftback style boot is very practical and because there is no engine there is also a frunk (front trunk) meaning the Model S has plenty of room to carry all your gear. On top of that you can fit three child seats across the back seat.
Apart from the practically, the Tesla Model S is an absolute tech-fest with some futuristic features including AutoPilot, Tesla’s autonomous driving functions, and the ability to receive updates via the cloud. But apart from being packed to the rafters with innovative features it is also very engaging to drive and the instant torque makes the Model S feel very rapid on the road.
What’s special about this particular one?
This particular model is powered by a 285kW electric motor with a maximum power output of 235kW (315hp) and is fitted with a 70kWh battery pack (hence the name S 70). It’s capable of a range of around 390km and this rear-wheel drive version can go from 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds and onto a top speed of 225km.
This example looks super smart in its deep blue metallic paint combined with the 19-inch split five spoke alloy wheels. The cabin is very elegant looking finished in this soft black leather with piano black accents and the light coloured Alcantara headliner lends an airy feeling to the interior. It also features that striking 17-inch portrait style touchscreen from which you operate nearly all of the car’s functions.
What does it look like in action?
Check out the Tesla AutoPiolt system freaking out Jalopnik Deputy Editor, Michael Ballaban as he tries it out in traffic.
Who else drives one?
The Tesla Model S is a favourite among the Hollywood elite and celebrities including Will Smith, Demi Moore, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck, Steven Spielberg and Morgan Freeman have been spotted driving one.
It costs €72,995. What else could you get for the money?
Got your heart set on a fast, luxurious, electric or hybrid car? For €69,950 you could have this 2015 Porsche Panamera S.
… or for €66,445 you could have this 2017 BMW 530e PHEV.
