The 9 at 9 Nine things to know this morning…

EVERY MORNING, TheJournal.ie brings you the nine things you need to know as you start your day.

1. #RACE FOR THE ÁRAS: There have been more reports this morning about the past financial dealings of presidential candidate Seán Gallagher. The Irish Independent reports that he and his business partner paid themselves almost €860,000 from their company Smart Homes in 2008 and 2009 – after it started losing money during the property bubble burst.

With less than a week to go until polling, TheJournal.ie has sat down with six of the candidates for our Quickfire Quiz. Check out how they all got on here.

2. #OCCUPY: Organisers of the Occupy Dame Street protests will be marching from the Garden of Remembrance to the Central Bank in Dublin this afternoon (from 2pm). According to RTÉ, the group has said the demonstration is for those who have been asked to shoulder a national debt that is not theirs.

3. #LIBYA: NATO has said that its operation in Libya is “very close” to completion. In a statement last night Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said NATO’s military forces “prevented a massacre and saved countless lives”. It is expected that the liberation of Libya will be declared by the NTC in Benghazi tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has called for a full and independent investigation to be opened into the death of Muammar Gaddafi.

4. #KIDNAP: Gardaí remain “very concerned” for the wellbeing of a man they believe was assaulted by three men and kidnapped from Russell Avenue at East Wall in Dublin on Thursday afternoon. The Irish Examiner reports that fears for a 29-year-old Dubliner are growing as a city-wide search failed to locate him.

5. #CROWN PRINCE: The heir to the Saudi throne Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud has died outside the kingdom following an illness, King Abdullah’s palace announced today. His death opens up questions about the succession in the oil-rich kingdom.

6. #EUROZONE: Euro area finance ministers have approved the next €8 billion tranche of bailout loans for Greece, saving the country from a catastrophic default. The move comes ahead of tomorrow’s EU leaders summit. No decisions are expected out of the meeting as France and Germany remain at loggerheads over how to deal with the ongoing debt crisis. Yesterday, chairman of the eurogroup Jean-Claude Junker said the delay in agreeing on a comprehensive plan is “disastrous” for the region’s image.

7. #CLOVERHILL: An outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) at Cloverhill prison has seen more than 30 prison officers diagnosed with the disease, reports the Irish Daily Mirror this morning. The HSE is now carrying out further tests among staff and inmates.

8. #COURTS: A Limerick-woman has avoided jail despite pleading guilty to charges of deception and forgery. According to The Irish Times, Pamela Hickey arranged two aircraft to bring 180 Munster fans to rugby matches in the UK and France in 2005 by using aliases, false travel documents and forged payment documents. The court heard that she also duped the airline charter companies by claiming JP McManus was a silent investor in her tour business.

9. #SHINING STARS: GAA stars dusted down the tuxedos last night for the Association’s glitziest night of the year – the All-Stars banquet. As expected, Dubliner Alan Brogan was named Footballer of the Year, while Kilkenny man Michael Fennelly took home the Hurler of the Year award.
