• The government has announced a 20 per cent cut to public sector pensions of €100,000 and above.
• A group of student briefly occupied the Department of Jobs this evening during an anti-fees protest. The students had come equipped with several days’ worth of food and a portable toilet, but left the premises after ten to fifteen minutes, according to the department.
• Quinn Healthcare has announced a 12 per cent hike in premiums for its health insurance customers from January 2012, blaming the Health Insurance Levy for the rise. Meanwhile, TDs are set to vote this week on whether to introduce a cost subsidy on health insurance to tackle the higher cost of insuring older people.
• The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has announced it will proceed with an inquiry into the Prime Times Investigates programme which defamed Fr Kevin Reynolds. Meanwhile, it emerged earlier that the BAI has already looked into the programme following an earlier complaint about the use of an interview recorded for the programme.
• Eurozone finance ministers have been holding another round of talks aimed at addressing the eurozone debt crisis. Further details on measures to increase the integration of economic policy are expected to be unveiled at the upcoming EU leaders’ summit. Meanwhile, Italy’s borrowing costs rose to almost 8 per cent today in its sale of three-year bonds.
• Russia Today has posted the following incredible footage of stunt flyer, or ‘jetman’, Yves Rossi soaring above the Alps alongside fighter jets:

• Gardaí are appealing for the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 16-year-old Sean Lennon who has been missing from Co Wicklow since 22 November.
• A man in France has been arrested on suspicion of killing his three-year-old son by locking him in a washing machine and turning the machine on.
• A psychiatric evaluation of the 32-year-old Norwegian man Anders Behring Breivik who confessed to carrying out two terror attacks which killed 77 people in July has found that he is not mentally fit to stand trial.
• A woman has been arrested in London over a now-viral video rant in which a female tram passenger makes racist comments and directs abuse towards other passengers.
• A group of male visitors to the Playboy mansion is launching legal action against the property’s operators for sexual discrimination, claiming that the men were discriminated against because they had to pay to enter the property but good-looking women didn’t.
• A shop manager in Seattle says that an elderly man has returned money he claims to have stolen from the store some 60 years ago.
• Damien Rice fans aren’t happy today following reports that this year’s X Factor winner could be covering his Cannonball hit.
