Looking for things to do with the family between now and New Year's? Here are some ideas

Between pantos, markets and ice-skating, there are plenty of things to do around the country.

THE BIG DAY has come and gone but that doesn’t mean the festivities are over.

The Journal has picked out some family-friendly events and attractions that might be worth your while over the coming days, especially if you’re looking for a diversion for the kids.

Twinkletown, Dublin

First up, if you’re in or nearby Dublin, Twinkletown in Smithfield Square has got a good review from at least one reporter in the newsroom.

There is an ice-skating rink, a Christmas market and a vintage fairground among other things.

You can find details here

If ice-skating is your thing, there are also rinks to visit in Wexford, Cork, Blanchardstown and Dun Laoghaire.

Festive Family Féile

On the other side of the country, there is the New Year’s Eve Festive Family Féile, which describes itself as a “vibrant, family-focused” celebration.

According to the website, the party is “designed with families in mind” and features an early countdown at 8:30pm, “marked by the iconic bells of St. Nicholas Collegiate Church”.

Aladdin, the panto

The Cork Opera House is staging an Aladdin panto between now and 22 January.

The opera house is encouraging people to pick up tickets while they can.

“Aladdin promises to be our most magical Panto experience yet – oh yes it does!” the promotion reads, adding that it’s “brought to you by the genie-us creative team who produced last year’s huge hit, Cinderella. So don’t miss out, tickets for the Cork Opera House Panto always fly out the door!”

Tickets can be bought here

There are also pantos on in the Gaiety, the Olympia, the National Stadium and Blanchardstown in Dublin, as well as The Everyman in Cork, and Galway

Christmas Family Nature Trail

If you’re up north, why not take the kids on a nature walk in the Mount Stewart Estate in Newtownards.

There is no need to book and normal admission prices apply.

You can find the details here.

There are other outdoor options in Wexford, Wicklow and Louth
