THERE ARE REPORTS that efforts are underway to extend Ireland’s free schoolbooks scheme to private fee-paying schools.
First introduced for primary schools in 2023 and to be expanded to Junior Cycle students last September, the €123 million programme aims to reduce financial pressure on parents.
But according to today’s Sunday Times, a number of Government backbencher TDs from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are looking for the scheme to be expanded to cover the entire school sector.
So today we’re asking: should the free schoolbooks scheme also apply to fee-paying schools?
