Toyota recalls another 1.5m cars

Brake fuel leak and fuel pump concerns behind latest batch of recalls.

JAPANESE CAR MANUFACTURER Toyota has issued new recalls for around 1.5 million vehicles worldwide over brake fuel leak and fuel pump issues.

The company said that brake fluid used during vehicle maintenance may not contain enough of the lubricants used in manufacturing.

This could cause fluid leaks which may eventually result in a soft brake pedal and decline in braking performance, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The Irish Times reports that Lexus in Ireland is recalling over 900 cars affected. Three cases of brake fluid leakage have been reported in this country, but no accidents as a result of that or the fuel pump problem.

Lexus can be reached in Ireland on 1800 224 222. Toyota cars were the second-most registered brand in Ireland last year.

Toyota said that the bulk of the recalled vehicles are located in the US and Japan, and that it will notify the relevant owners worldwide by mail to bring their vehicle for free repairs.

Toyota has recalled over 10m vehicles worldwide in the past year, Times Live reports.

The WSJ reports that news of the most recent recall comes as the car manufacturer announced that an internal investigation into acceleration problems which prompted major recalls earlier has produced no evidence of engine electronics problems.
