A TRAIN TRAVELLING from Sligo to Connolly Station has been delayed after a bridge was struck by a vehicle this morning.
The 11am train has been delayed by up to 35 minutes after a railway bridge at Carrick-on-Shannon was hit by a truck.
In 2016 there were 92 incidents of vehicles hitting bridges, which is an increase on 2015. So far this year there have been 65 bridge strikes, with the highest increase recorded along the Dart line.
Iarnród Éireann is currently in the process of seeking solutions to reduce the instances of railway bridges being struck by trucks.
