Two arrested on suspicion of murder following disappearance of Becky Watts

The man and woman had previously been arrested on suspicion of kidnap.

POLICE IN THE United Kingdom have arrested two people on suspicion of murder in the search for missing teenager Becky Watts.

The pair, a man (28) and woman (21), were previously arrested on Saturday on suspicion of kidnap.

They were further arrested by Avon and Somerset police this afternoon on suspicion of murder.

Becky (16) was last seen at her home in Bristol on 19 February. She was reported missing the next day, and there have been extensive searches carried out of the surrounding area by volunteers and police.

Extra units, including specialist dog units and a helicopter, were drafted in from other police forces in the area.

Sky News quotes Becky’s father and step-mother as saying they ‘preparing for the worst’.

A statement from police confirmed that a black Vaxhuall car wanted in connection with the investigation was recovered today, and they are now appealing to the public for help in tracing its recent movements.

The man and woman arrested are still in police custody.

“This morning, a district judge granted us a warrant of further detention which gives us a further 36 hours to question these two individuals,” the statement read.

We have also been impressed by the level of engagement we have had with our online drive to find Becky. The #FindBecky has reached thousands of people and the total reach for our social media campaign has now reached more than 4million people world-wide.

“Becky’s family are understandably distraught and we are working closely with them to support them at this difficult time.”
