Swimmers told to avoid nine south Dublin bathing spots after week of heavy rain

SWIMMERS HAVE BEEN told to avoid nine bathing spots in South County Dublin, after a week of heavy rain.
Seapoint was newly added to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council’s list of prohibited bathing spots on Saturday.
The notice will remain in place until next Thursday, 11 June.
Meanwhile, swimming bans at Blackrock Baths, Corbawn Strand and the Forty Foot have been extended until the same date.
Prior notices for Coliemore Harbour, Sandycove, Dún Laoghaire Baths, Killiney Beach and Whiterock Beach will also remain until Thursday.
Swimming spots in South County Dublin often become unsafe after a period of heavy rainfall, like that seen this week. Wastewater treatment infrastructure can become overwhelmed, which can result in raw sewage being discharged into the sea.
The council will next test the water on Tuesday. Results will be available on Thursday, when notices will be updated.
