Syringe stabbing

Two still in hospital after syringe attack in James's Street shop

The attack happened in a Dublin city centre convenience store on Saturday night.

TWO MEN REMAIN in hospital, one of whom is under arrest, after an attack at a Spar shop on James’s Street in Dublin on Saturday night.

A shop worker, a man in his 30s, is said to be seriously ill in hospital after he was stabbed with syringe during an altercation with a man who was attempting to rob the contents of the shop shortly before 10pm on Saturday.

The lone raider was attempting to make off with contents from the shop when he was confronted by staff, threatened them with syringe full of blood and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle it is understood that one of the shop workers, who is named in some papers today as Jahanzaib Butt, was stabbed in the head with a syringe.

Gardaí later arrived on the scene and detained a man under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

He remains in custody at St James’s Hospital where he is being treated for a leg injury. Butt is also still in hospital where his condition is described as serious.
