'We refuse to hate': U2 pay tribute to Paris and Syria at Belfast gig
Almost 11,000 fans attended the concert.
U2 KICKED OFF the Irish leg of their iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE tour last night, playing their first gig in Belfast in 17 years.
The concert is the first time the band took to the stage since cancelling its planned Paris concerts in the wake of last week’s terrorist attacks in the French capital.
Almost 11,000 fans attended the gig at SSE Airtricity Arena.
During the concert, Bono paid tribute to victims of the Parisian attacks, dedicating City of Blinding Lights to them. The band also remembered people from war-torn Syria, and all victims of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that the band dedicated Bullet the Blue Sky to Syria and Sunday Bloody Sunday to Northern Ireland.
Bono told the crowd: “We refuse to hate because we know that love will do a better job.”
