US airport shut because of 'serious threat'

Richmond International Airport was evacuated as sniffer dogs searched the complex.

A VIRGINA AIRPORT has reopened in the past hour following a full evacuation and security alert earlier today.

Flights at Richmond International Airport were suspended because of a threat telephoned in that was “deemed serious enough to evacuate the terminal as a precautionary measure”.

A number of agencies performed sweeps of the campus with the aid of sniffer dogs over a four-hour period. The searches turned up nothing suspicious and normal operations, including airline desks and security screening, resumed shortly after.

Passengers were advised to rebook their flights with operating airlines.
