EVERY IRISH SCHOOLCHILD is familiar with the short stories of Cork writer Frank O’Connor. One of the most memorable of these stories is Guest of the Nation, a moving study of the relationship between British soldiers and the young IRA men who hold them captive during the War of Independence.
The story became the basis of the powerful anti-war 1935 film of the same name, directed by Denis Johnston, which has now been restored by the IFI Irish Film Archive. This Sunday, 11 September, the National Concert will screen the newly-restored film set to Niall Byrne’s new orchestral score.
TheJournal.ie, in association with the National Concert Hall, has eight pairs of tickets to this WORLD PREMIERE event.
To be in with a chance of winning a set of tickets for Sunday, simply email your name and address to competitions@thejournal.ie clearly marking your entry ‘Guests of the Nation at the NCH’.
