TWENTY-ONE PEOPLEÂ lost their lives working on a farm last year.
The figure fell by one since 2011, but was double the number of farm-related deaths when compared with 2009.
The statistics from the Health and Safety Authority show that for another year in a row, farming is the most common sector for fatal workplace injuries, followed by construction and fishing.
The number of fatalities has led to the Irish Farmers’ Association President, John Bryan, asking all farm families to farm safely in the year ahead:
Farmers, in every task and every day, put farm safety top of your work agenda in 2013.
The HSA will release their official figures for fatal workplace injuries for 2012 tomorrow.
