7 things that ALWAYS give you road rage

Bad drivers bring out a special kind of rage in all of us.

BETWEEN TRAFFIC, THE cost of petrol, and potholes you could bathe in, we deal with a lot on Irish roads. They’re unavoidable problems though, so you just bite your lip and get on with it.

Then there are the avoidable problems, the ones that make that vein around your temple start to throb. The ones borne completely out of human misery that instantly turn you into a frothing lunatic.

Here we list seven, although we could probably make it 100.

1. Not saluting a good deed

I’m sure you’ve heard it a hundred times, but manners don’t cost a thing. Especially when the sum total of what’s expected of you is to raise your index finger.

2. Not dimming your lights

If they’re going in the opposite direction, you just mutter something offensive. If they’re behind you? Full on rage where you flail every extremity in the hope that they notice.

3. Blocking an intersection

Not only is the clown that gets stuck in the yellow box blocking all lanes of traffic, they’re also making exaggerated shrugging gestures to make out it’s not their fault. It IS your fault.

4. Being stared at in traffic

We’ve all been there. You’re minding your own business, flicking through radio stations and then a car comes to rest in the adjacent lane. You get that ‘being watched’ feeling, look to your left and BAM.

5. Parking spot theft

Most of these incidents take place on the road, leaving you screaming at a car that’s already out of sight. The parking spot theft is the most brazen of all, because they’re sitting right there pretending not to notice you. Trust us, they notice you.

6. Backseat drivers

Whether you’re a flincher when going through yellow lights or a member of the “tap tap” brigade stomping on your imaginary brakes, just stop it. Or get out and walk.

7. Staying in the right lane

Otherwise known as the overtaking lane, because it’s used for overtaking. It seems simple but lord knows we’ve all been stuck behind someone barely managing the speed limit.

There’s plenty to drive you crazy on the roads as is, so the last thing you need is a car that adds to the frustration. If you’re thinking of trading up, list your car at adverts.ie and ensure that it’s seen by thousands of interested buyers.
