Allo Allo star Gorden Kaye dies aged 75

He appeared in all 84 episodes.

ACTOR GORDEN KAYE, who was best-known for his portrayal of cafe owner Rene Artois in Allo Allo, has died aged 75.

Kaye, who appeared in every episode of the long-running sitcom, passed away at a care home on Monday morning, the BBC reported.

“Gorden Kaye was a terrific comic actor whose signature role, Rene Artois, earned his place in the comedy hall of fame,” Shane Allen, controller of BBC comedy commissioning said.

“He was instrumental in making Allo Allo such a long running and well-loved series.”

Kaye reunited with former cast members when Allo Allo returned for one-off special back in 2007. He is pictured here with Vicki Michelle, who played Yvette Carte-Blanche in the show. Her face was known to Irish audiences from a brief cameo in a 1980s Harp lager ad playing Sally O’Brien (“and the way she might look at you”). It caused a minor furore when it was revealed that the actress playing the sultry Sally was, in fact, English.

Three years previously, Sam Kelly, who played Captain Hans Geering in the show passed away.
