ARCHBISHOP DIARMUID MARTIN met with Pope Francis in Rome this morning, where an international conference on comabating human trafficking is taking place.

Titled ‘Church and Law Enforcement in Partnership’, the conference was attended by politicians, law enforcement officials and representative groups in the area.

Addressing the conference, Pope Francis said that human trafficking was “an open wound” on contemporary society, calling it a “crime against humanity”.

He denounced the crime and during his greetings with attendees of the conference he was presented with a T-shirt which had a play on words, stating: “Turn Back Crime”. (Perhaps he’s a fan of Tina Turner, who knows?)
