THE PSNI SAYS THE 12 JULY riots in Ardoyne this summer cost the force over £1.1m (€1.32).
PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott told the Belfast Telegraph the cost equalled having an eight-person neighbourhood police team working in Ardoyne for three years.
Baggott told Belfast’s policing board that the cost of the Ardoyne violence would have an impact on PSNI services in the community affected by the riots:
Unfortunately that area will no longer get the 24 police officers over the three years that they would have got had we not spent £1.1 million policing that parade.
More than 40 people have been charged in connection with the disturbances, which began on 12 July and continued for four days.
Several police officers were injured, one seriously.
Last week, Australia, New Zealand and America issued travel warnings to their citizens in relation to Northern Ireland as a response to the violent disturbances and dissident activity this summer.
