Take a look at Sydney’s amazing fireworks display

It is now 1 January, 2013 in Sydney, Australia. This is how they welcomed it.

OKAY, SO WE pretty much admitted our jealously when we posted pictures of the fireworks display which took place over the Sydney Opera House before it was even midnight.

Now that we’ve seen the show they put on for the main event, we just have to come out and say it: Sydney know how to organise a fireworks display.

Don’t believe us? Check out the images below.

Went to Sydney about 10 years ago and got there New Year’s Eve afternoon time. Straight to the harbour but we were that jet lagged that after a few VB’s we were all on the deck sound asleep and ended up missing the party :(

  • If we won’t get huge fireworks display in Ireland, people are complaining. If we did – people would complain that money was wasted…

    you can’t win!

Ahem, we do know how to pull off a display like that….you’ll remember the first skyfests a few years back? It just requires the will to do it….

  • @Petes – ur an idiot then aren’t ya – they can’t put speakers around all of the harbour it’s too big, the sound delay is a result if the sheer size of the joint – I’ve been going for over 25 years and its without doubt a truly awesome & amazingly coordinated event for the eyes and ears – if u can’t understand why 1,500,000 ppl would cause queues to facilities or that the state or city should provide enough free water etc – the labs you were on was public land – therefore free for every person from Sydney, NSW, Australia and the World therefore it’s the responsibility of the individual to make their own provisions – clearly it’s unfair that I who paid $900 per my VIP ticket for my free food and alcohol on the Sydney Opera House forecourt gets a better view and sound exportable than you the joe public – but suck it up, there was a time I also viewed the fireworks from a far away balcony with a view they the tall buildings – we all can’t get a spot at the opera house, but fit the public who want a free spot there, u have to be prepared to wait for 10 to 12 hours to keep your place – because it’s free – only difference between the $900 spot where I was and the public spot on the forecourt was the $900 and the free food and grog – better luck next year mate – but a ticket or wait like everyone else – otherwise go watch it on TV – but I’d say you were 1 in 1,500,000 on the foreshore who didn’t like it – and that’s not counting the 3,000,000 watching from balconies, tall buildings

  • I was in the harbour on a boat in the middle of all the amazing fireworks. I volunteer with marine rescue and we patrol various zones keeping boats off the exclusion zones and assisting boats at 0030 when chaos erupts as everyone heads for home. Got amazing photos and videos. Didn’t see bed until 0530 but what an amazing show.

  • seriously hung over today but worth it. sat in a park from 11am till 1am with about 2-3thousand people all boozin hard all day, not one fight or bit if drama ,an atmosphere you’d never get in Ireland without some toerags there to destroy it.

  • Hate to bust the bubble but I was at Sydney Harbour last night and was very disappointed. To see the fireworks we had to be in place by 18:00… access was blocked aat that point and its almost impossible to see outside that area … the was no seating space left. We had to stand… though we found a seating spot around 20:30. There were a few hot dog stands and toilets… NOTHING else… no entertainment…not even piped music… it took approx an hour to queue for a bottle of water (no alcohol allowed… no real problem with the alcohol rule), it took 15 mins to queue for the mens… it was really BORING having no other choice than to do NOTHING for so long… we thought it might have been worth it…but no..the fireworks lasted 15 mins and were not properly synced all the time… there were also a number of quiet moments….. for reference we were in Rio a few years ago and THAT was truly amazing.
