SUE PERKINS HAS been installed as one of the favourites to take over the helm at Top Gear after the axing of former presenter Jeremy Clarkson.
It has been reported by The Express that BBC bosses have lined up Perkins as part of a short list of potential replacements.
According to odds from bookmakers Paddy Power, at 5/2, Perkins is second favourite to get the job, only a short way behind Dermot O’Leary at 2/1.
Chris Evans, model Jodie Kidd and Guy Martin are also thought to be potential candidates.
Despite this, Perkins denied the rumour on Twitter in response to an article from OK! Magazine.
Perkins is currently a co-presenter on the BBC’s ‘Great British Bake Off’ programme and is in a relationship with Channel 4 presenter Anna Richardson.
Jeremy Clarkson was dismissed by the BBC last month after an incident in which he punched Irish producer Oisín Tymon.
Despite his dismissal, Clarkson is set to return to the BBC in just under two weeks time as a guest presenter on panel show ‘Have I Got News For You’.
The BBC was contacted but has said that it is unable to comment on the matter at this time.
