A young woman was the victim of the attack in Belfast City Centre last night.

A YOUNG WOMAN was the victim of a serious sexual assault as she was waiting for a friend to collect her in Belfast city centre last night.

The PSNI’s Rape Crime Unit says that the woman is in her early 20s and and was assaulted as she was waiting in the Rosemary Street area at about 3.30am this morning.

When the woman’s friend arrived he chased the attacker who then escaped after running towards Royal Avenue.

“The assailant is described as being a black male who was wearing a black top, white jeans and a black baseball cap with white trim,” says detective sergeant Mike Davis.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the assault or witnessed the resulting chase to come forward and contact them.
