Taxi driver who was stabbed described as 'hard-working family man'

Reports say that the find could be upgraded to a murder investigation.

A MAN FOUND dead in north county Louth has been named as Martin Mulligan.

The 53-year-old was found in the Kilcurry area of Dundalk this morning, at around 3am.

The taxi driver was discovered on the road roughly 200 metres from his car, a silver champagne coloured Skoda Octavia with the registration 07 LH 5599.

Mulligan is from the local area and had started work driving his taxi from around 9.30pm on Sunday evening.

The man was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene which has been preserved for technical examination. The Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.

It is understood that the man had been stabbed.

Speaking about the incident Superintendent Gerry Curley described Mulligan as a hard-working family man.

It is understood the PSNI are involved in the investigation as the incident happened so close to the border. House to house enquiries are taking place.

As of yet no motive has been established.

The scene at Carn More/ Kilcurry has been preserved for forensic and technical examination.

An incident room has been set up at Dundalk Garda Station to deal with the incident.
