Four arrested after cannabis seizure in Galway

TWO CANNABIS GROWHOUSES have been found in Galway.

Gardaí discovered them during ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of cannabis.

As part of their investigations, gardaí carried out searches at two addresses in the Oranmore and Mervue areas of Galway yesterday, Saturday 14 July.

During the operation the two grow houses were discovered, while cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €730,000 (pending analysis) were seized.

Gardaí arrested four males, three aged in their 20s and one in his 30s. They are currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at Galway Garda Station.

i see canabis found all the time, the problem in my town is heroin and tablets, make the kids go crazy, cannabis is not really dangerous and is legal in some countries,, the other drugs are ridiculously common place and are the problems for stabbing and killing, fighting, when are they going to go after the big time druggies, we all know who they are, where to go for them and its a small town, couple of years ago there was a tv show where a man under cover went to different towns to find drugs, they were shown within 10mins in the town where to go and where to buy them, we support these people has refugees but they are richer than i am , and have more drugs that are dangerous but nothing being done, then they go to court get free legal aid, which once again we pay for and get off free, the irish lads go to jail for cannabis that does not harm or kill you, i dont understand law, lawyers , judges or the police not going for it,,,

  Thanks Noddy but it’s obvious that Westmeath has some issues in his life and it appears that knocking people is his way of dealing with it.
  
  I had suspected that they destroy it but was not certain. It seems to me like they could sell seized cannabis once the court case is over to governments that have legalised the drug in their country, whether it is for medical use or just recreational. If this seizure is worth 750k then selling it for a reduced rate might help pay for more Gardai or some other public service. Just a thought.

  1. The violent crime rate would take a nosedive.
  2. Gang activity would decrease significantly (weed is their #1 source of revenue)
  3. Incarceration rate would go way down
  4. Law Enforcement and Prison spending would take a nosedive
  5. You could justify a large cut in military spending (less need to enforce anti-drug policy internationally)
  6. Taxation would generate revenue
