€350,000 worth of cigarettes seized in hot tubs

The discovery was made at Rosslare Europort.

REVENUE OFFICERS HAVE seized smuggled cigarettes with a retail value of over €357,000 at Rosslare Europort.

The discovery was made close to midnight on Saturday.

The load, which arrived from Cherbourg in a Lithuanian-registered truck, was identified as suspicious in routine profiling by Revenue.

When it was scanned, the contraband was discovered hidden in a number of hot tubs.

The cigarettes were branded Minsk Superslip, Minsk Short and NZ Gold Superslip.

The truck was seized. The driver, aged in his 20s, was questioned and later released.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes.
