APPLIANCE COMPANY BEKO has urged customers who own a Beko branded frost free fridge freezer to get in touch as it has emerged it poses a fire hazard.
The company has said that the defrost timer at the back of the fridge could potentially fail and cause a fire hazard.
It said that the products were independently tested before being placed on the market.
We deeply regret any incident involving any Beko product and we are working with all relevant organisations to rectify an identified problem with some of our fridge freezers. Quality, customer safety and satisfaction is paramount to Beko
The Beko frost free fridge freezer models affected were manufactured between January 2000 and October 2006.
These have a serial number that begins with either 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06, and this information can be found on a label inside the fridge.
Beko will make a free of charge modification to all affected models, which it says will take approximately 30 minutes.
It says that it believes it is still safe for customers to continue using the product until the engineer visits, but to take care as they would with any other electrical appliance.
Owners of the Beko branded frost free fridge freezers are asked to contact the company on 1800 25 29 25 in Ireland, and the company said it will carry out a free of charge modification to the defrost timer.
