REVENUE OFFICERS AROUND eight million cigarettes following the search of a number of premises in Wexford yesterday.
The cigarettes had arrived into Dublin Port from Vietnam via Rotterdam last Friday in a container which was consigned as ‘Garden Furniture’.
The contraband cigarettes, branded “Aroma”, have a retail value of over €4.2 million, that represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €3.3 million.
The seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing enforcement operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products and brings the total number of cigarettes seized so far this year to more than 36 million.
Investigations are ongoing.
