A MAN HAS been shot dead in Derry city centre.

The attack happened shortly before 11am this morning at Shipquay Street, the PSNI have confirmed.

The area has been cordoned off as investigations get under way.

Speaking to UTV, Local MLA Pat Ramsey said the attack “bears the hallmarks of dissident republicans”.

“It’s hard to believe people are willing to carry this on. The only people using guns on the streets are dissident republicans and this has all the hallmarks of those,” the SDLP representative said.

The shooting comes less than 24 hours after a man’s body was discovered in a lake in Belfast. Dissident republicans have claimed responsibility for that killing.
