Actually, having a driving licence just qualifies you to take a PSV test , not to actually drive a taxi.

You can’t pick up in the airport without an airport permit. Very simple stuff.

Nine people must not be able to google this and find out the truth or just don’t want to.

Drivers pay for a permit which is displayed in the car the daa issue the permit the barrier is lifted allowing them access to the holding area . No permit . No access.

While the permit holders are not supplying a service they should open it to all taxis & coach services. Theres a lot of school buses out their who could do it between 10 & 2

You can book a taxi in advance and have it pick you up at Departures, there’s no problem in that, at least you’ll know the price in advance and not be ripped off by a meter pick pocketer

Maybe while the ‘strike’ is taking place the DAA should temporarily allow open access to the airport for all taxis instead of just those with permits – somehow I think the striking drivers would be back to work before too long….

They are not the worst in comparison to their international counterparts. You’re far less likely to get scammed in Dublin or be taken to an abandoned building to have your kidneys removed.

I was refused by a couple of them and moaned at by a few others just because i wasn’t going far enough for them and wasn’t going to make them enough money, and they actually said it to my face They are a joke If they really needed the money and the job so badly they wouldn’t be waisting their time moaning and striking every few months

Here here, probably striking because they didn’t reach their whinge quota for the day, any fule knows it hasn’t been a worthwhile profession for at least 4 years now, akin to walking through the desert and pissing and moaning that there is no water

Last time I got a taxi from the airport to Tallaght it cost me 50 quid. So, I turned around, bent over and let him do me dry. (not literally of course)

Airport to dundrum – Fixed fare 28 bucks if you shop around. Hope 75 is an exaggeration for effect.

Get the taxi to go via city center and would be around €38/40

Agree we paid 74.50 to travel from dundrum to airport at 04:50 on a Tuesday 3 weeks ago never again. Taxi total rip off.

Dundrum to the Airport before 8am is on a different tarriff,however if the M50 is used and might i say is quicker the fare is noemally around 75 to Dundrum,Might i suggest to Brian that Aircoach is also available.

If you are saying that it is the taxi drivers lack of education that makes them racist . Well then they are in good company . What about racist publicans shopowners. Judges. Guards . Politicians . Nothing to do with lack of education all to do with opinion. Every walk of life has its racists don’t lose sight of what this strike is about . It’s about taking away their right to work . After paying the daa to be allowed to do so .

Littlesparrow: I agree that there are racist at any society levels, but it’s bit weird not to agree that there is far less percentage of racist people amongst educated group of people than in any group with basic / low education. And education is actually the factor that can change and changes peoples opinions too. Doesn’t work for everyone though, I’m aware of it.

As a taxi driver pointed out to me in dublin today he sent he wasn’t racist he hates everyone equally ha!

Hypothetically, if I say shot you in the foot (which was somehow going to kill you) whilst you were out riding your bicycle in say Ballyhaunis and this taxi man came up to you and offered you a lift to say UCHG to save your life. Would you take it? Hypothetically- I would never shoot you.

No offence John, and I’m not taking a pro- or anti- side on the strike, but a load of occupations receive a regular kicking on this website, not just taxi-drivers. Bank workers, civil servants, nurses, teachers, builders, guards; the list goes on and on. I was accused of being a former republican terrorist last night because I interrupted someone’s rant. Not happy about that, obviously. I think the editorial policy here is to only step in if there could be a serious possibility that legal action could be taken against them. I don’t think there’s any agenda other than promoting controversy to push up the numbers. It seems that, once on the internet, the standards of decency that apply in the real world don’t apply. It is what it is.

All day parking at a national airport in a capital city for €1.20 per day. Yeah your really getting screwed on that.

I’m not sure they’re actually trying to *park* at the airport. Or maybe they prefer parking there to taking a fare to Swords, not sure.

It’s the only airport in Dublin that charges a fare to sit there. You can sit at ALL the other Dublin airports for free.

I’m amused at the number of thumbs down here considering other comments on the page, however what people should also know is that I was once a taxi man too albeit over 15 years ago. If I was taxiing today that would be my strategy. And yes are the DAA a greedy bunch ……… you better believe it.

But taxi drivers are losing out on money during these events. It’s stupid. Dublin bus will (if they have sense) just put on more buses in and out.
