Dublin WiFi: Where can you get access?

The free version of the service, available from today, has a download speed of 512Kbps and an upload speed of 128Kbps.

FREE WIFI IS coming to 12 locations throughout Dublin city centre from today.

WiFi will be a available 24/7 at various hotspots, which will be identified by wall mosaics which will feature modern and historical digidub characters – including a viking, a street cleaner, a tourist, a rockabilly girl and a pyjama girl.

The free version of the service provides a download speed of 512Kbps and an upload speed of 128Kbps. A premium service also exists, as follows:

  • 24-hour rate (use within one month) 3Mbps – €5
  • One month (24hrs per day) 3Mbps – €10
  • Flat rate (365 days no time limit) 6Mbps €8 per month

The service is being offered to the council for free by Spanish company Gowex, which specialises in the delivery of free municipal WiFi services.

To mark today’s launch, members of the public are invited to take part in a Twitter WiFi Day from 11am to 5pm, at Barnardo’s Square.

Anyone who sends a tweet which uses the #DublinGowexFreeWifi hashtag will be entitled to one day of free premium WiFi (speed up to 6Mbps).

In addition to this, anyone who registers as a user of the Dublin WiFi network today will be in with a chance of winning a Nexus 7 Tablet.

The service is available from today at the Civic Offices Amphitheatre, Wood Quay, St Patrick’s Park and Barnardo’s Square.

The service will be rolled out over the coming weeks to include the following locations:

  • Smithfield Square
  • Barnardo’s Square
  • Clarendon Street
  • St Patrick’s Park
  • O’Connell Street Plaza/GPO
  • Temple Bar Square
  • Wolfe Tone Square
  • Frontage to the Convention Centre Dublin
  • Merrion Park
  • Henry Street
  • Grafton Street
  • Outdoor amphitheatre located at Civic Offices
