Witness report leads gardaí to arrest man during sexual assault

The arrest was made at around 3am on Monday morning.

GARDAÍ INTERVENED TO stop a sexual assault in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Monday morning.

A witness alerted the gardaí who rushed to the scene and stopped the assault on Parnell Place at around 3am.

The suspect, who is a man in his 30s, was arrested at the scene.

The victim, who is also in her 30s, was taken to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit at the Rotunda Hospital.

A spokesman for the gardaí said she was discharged a short time later.

The suspect is currently detained at Store St Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be held for up to 24 hours.

The spokesman said that the investigation is ongoing.
