Gary Glitter will spend up to 16 years in jail

The former glam rocker was convicted of the attempted rape and sexual assault of three schoolgirls.

FORMER GLAM ROCKER Gary Glitter has been sentenced to 16 years in jail after being convicted of the rape of sexual assault of three schoolgirls.

Glitter, 70, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was convicted of the attempted rape of a 12-year-old girl.

He was also found guilty of four counts of indecent assault including that of an eight-year-old girl.

The offences took place in the 1970s.

Sentencing Gadd, the judge said he considered the fact that he had not admitted to his crimes.

“But one thing is certain and important in the context of this sentencing exercise. Whatever changes may have been effected in you by this treatment, they did not include any admission at all on your part of the wrong that you had done, in particular of the offences of which you now stand convicted,” Courts News UK reports.

Gadd was found guilty of the charges after a two week trial that also saw him acquitted of three other offences.
