Open thread: What's one thing you'd love to do this year?

Without a goal, you can’t score.

SO, IT’S THE first day of a New Year – and what are you getting up to?

Nursing a sore head, probably… But this isn’t just a day for a cheeky fry-up, a duvet and the couch – it’s also a day where we look forward to the year ahead.

Every January, things start afresh and there’s a real sense of possibility in the air. It’s a month of to-do lists, inspiration and good intentions. So we want to know – what’s one thing you want to strike off the list this year?

1. Touch base

Ignoring your morning-after sentbox of doom for just a moment – think about those friends of yours you might not have seen as much as you’d like in 2014. Is there anyone you’re desperate to get into contact with? Make this the year.

2. Lose a few

After the excesses of last night (that are bound to culminate tonight in a takeaway in front of trashy DVDs, and all) and the festive season in general, you might be thinking about your waistline. Or lack thereof. January is the classic ‘get fit’ month. Hop on the bandwagon. If you can catch it…

3. Sort the spare room

You’ve been saying it for years, but maybe 2015 will – at last – be the year that you declutter your house. Hire a skip and dig in. You’ll feel a million times better after you chuck those boxes you’ve been ignoring since the last move.

4. Hobby lobby

You’ve been swearing you’d start running – or knitting, or cycling to work – for a long time. Bite the bullet.

5. And finally …

Quit smoking. There are so many reasons to give up – not least your health and your wallet. Could 2015 be the year?
