Islamic State fighter 'executes his mother in public' after she asks him to leave group

Hundreds of people are believed to have witnessed the killing.

AN ISLAMIC STATE fighter executed his own mother before a public audience, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has said.

The incident took place near the post office building where the woman worked in Raqqa, Syria. Hundreds of people were reportedly present at the time.

According to the SOHR, the woman was in her 40s. Her son was 20 years old.

Local sources told the observatory she was executed for “inciting her son to leave the Islamic State”.

She had reportedly wanted to escape the city, but her son informed IS and she was arrested. He is believed to have shot her.

The SOHR estimates between 260,000 to 350,000 people have been killed since the Syrian conflict erupted in March 2011.
