Man killed after car collides with bridge

The incident took place last night at approximately 9.15pm.

A MAN IN  his early forties has died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Kilkenny.

Gardaí at Thomastown are investigating the fatal collision, which occurred on the N9 at Knockwilliam, Ballyhale, County Kilkenny yesterday at approximately 9.15pm.

A man (42), who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a bridge.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, where a full post-mortem will take place tomorrow.

The vehicle was travelling on the N9 from Ballyhale in the direction of Mullinavat, County Kilkenny.

Gardaí said that the road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators, and diversions are in place.
