Let’s talk about sex: Ireland’s first sex festival to be held next month

IRELAND’S FIRST sex festival to explore and discuss issues about sexual freedom and health is to be held in Dublin city at the end of next month.

The event organisers say the one-day festival will host presentations on relationships, yoga, spiritual speed dating and BDSM (bondage, domination, sadism and masochism).

The Bliss Festival programme also promises a range of workshops, or ‘playshops’, on topics such as Tantra massage and “the metaphysics of sexual energy”.

Festival organiser and co-founder Beth Wallace says that although Irish society relationship with sex has changed significant in the last decades, “there is still a way to go in terms of full sexual freedom and access to full sexual health services”.

She says she believes Ireland is “ready for a festival about sex, that maturely looks at the subject holistically in terms of the mind, the body and the spirit”.

The event is being held on 25 February. Tickets cost €55 and can be purchased from the festival’s website.  Bliss Festival is being sponsored by businesses including Free Hug Yoga and One Heart Tantra.

Well done the Journal. Unusual for such a festival to get mainstream media attention with it sounding smutty. Keep up the good work.

Sounds like its being run by a bunch of chancers. I looked at the web site and Facebook page and the early bird tickets are €55, normal tickets cost €75. All over the website there is a donate button and it doesn’t even tell you anywhere where it’s on. I’ve seen illegal beach party’s advertised online that looked less iffy than this.

For this type of event it’s pretty normal not to be told the venue until you book your ticket due to not wanting
pressed sneaking in or right wing and religious protesters turning up, which has happened at other alt events.

Yes this is being billed as the first festival, but there have been sexuality events/conferences run in this country going back years. Last year was the first Kink conference http://www.onewithknots.com/twisted-leprechaun-2011/ which rang a range of workshops and activities.

In 2009 Dossie Easton http://www.eros-mutiny.com/ ran a two day conference on where kink and Tantra intersect.

And then there are several Tantra schools which have been running events and workshops going back over 15 years. The only difference is this Festival is the first to be courting mainstream press.

“The metaphysics of sexual energy.” Hmmmm. Sounds like a bit of snake oil.

55 blips, pricey, you’d want some “real” sampling for that!!

I think it’s great value considering it goes late into the evening and you have a whole bunch of different presenters to choose between. That Dossie Easton weekend cost €180 in 2009 for two days, so €55 or even €75 full price is pretty low in comparison.

Generally, tantra workshops are costing around €60-80 per day minimum depending on who is presenting.

I believe in this festival and think it’s a great way to promote sexual health and freedom in Ireland. That’s why I am proud to be both a sponser and presenter as One Heart Tantra.
