A new poll says that the majority of Irish people think water charges should be refunded to those who have already paid

The findings are contained in a Claire Byrne Live/Amárach Research poll for TheJournal.ie that was carried out today.

The Claire Byrne Live Amárach poll asked 1,000 adults: Do you think water charges should be refunded to those who have already paid?

  • Don’t know 8%

Last week, the Labour party drafted a bill to allow for a full return of all monies paid to Irish Water by customers within six months.

Two Independent Alliance TDs have also been questioned about their intentions to pay their bills.

Super junior minister for disability, Finian McGrath sought legal advice as to whether he was under an obligation to pay. He has since said he will pay his bill. Meanwhile, John Halligan, who is expected to be appointed as a Minister of State, said he is not liable to pay water charges.
