Shop workers threatened with knife in Saturday night robbery

Gardaí have recovered the weapon and a sum of cash.

GARDAÍ HAVE CHARGED a man (42) in connection with a robbery that occurred at Cloontuskert, County Roscommon on Saturday evening.

A man entered a shop in Cloontuskert, Roscommon at approximately 8.10pm and threatened two members of staff with a knife.

He left in a grey-coloured car with a small amount of cash.

No injuries were reported and the scene was preserved for technical examination.

Gardaí successfully stopped the car close to Longford a short time later and arrested the male driver, who was sole occupant. He was detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

An amount of cash and a knife were recovered by gardaí.

The man has been charged and remains in Garda custody. He appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court yesterday evening.
