A MAN IN HIS MID-30S was struck and killed by a train at Portlaoise station in Co Laois this evening.
The fatal incident occurred at around 4.50pm today. The man’s remains have been removed to Portlaoise Hospital.
Gardaí are investigating and say the death is being treated as a tragic incident.
The line at Portlaoise was subsequently closed, causing disruptions to Cork, Kerry and Limerick services but Irish Rail says the line has reopened and normal services have resumed.
