A car bomb exploded underneath car park killing six people and injuring many more.

ON 26 FEBRUARY 1993 a car bomb exploded underneath the World Trade Center in New York killing six people and injuring many more.

The bomb went of at 12.15pm local time, carving out a 100-foot crater in the car park.

The BBC reported that the an emotional Mario Cuomo, New York’s state governor said at the time:

We all have that feeling of being violated. No foreign people or force has ever done this to us. Until now we were invulnerable.

This was the first attack on American soil since Pearl Harbour, said the FBI.

However, it was not to be the last attack on the World Trade Center. Here are some photos of that historic day.
