Spanish police investigating report that Irish teenager was raped

The incident allegedly happened last week at the Playa de Las Americas resort in Tenerife.

SPANISH POLICE ARE investigating reports that an Irish teenager was sexually assaulted while on holiday with her family in Tenerife.

The incident happened on Thursday of last week in the region of Playa de las Américas, a holiday resort in the region of Arona, Canary Island newspaper El Día is reporting.

The assault is believed to have happened when she became separated from a family member who had been accompanying her, and was allegedly carried out by a caucasian male.

After the incident she was taken to a hospital in the south of the island where her injuries were assessed.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said that it does not comment on incidents of this nature.
