Armed raiders threatened staff during post office robbery

Two men were arrested after they stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the Roscommon post office this morning.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested after an armed robbery at a post office in Roscommon this morning.

The two masked men threatened staff and customers with a gun at the post office at Strokestown after entering at around 9.30am. The men stole an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.

The men made their escape in a silver Volvo car which crashed on the road between Ballymahon and Lanesborough a short time later. The men, both in their 20s, were arrested at the scene.

The two are being questioned at Roscommon Garda Station and gardaí said investigations are continuing.
