A 39-YEAR-OLD London man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his partner – Cork woman Leeann Foley.
Richard Conroy, from Islington, fired two shots from a shotgun at Foley on the morning of Saturday 1 November last year, at her flat on Loraine Road, close to the Emirates Stadium in Holloway, north London.
Police officers gave her first aid while awaiting ambulance, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan police, Conroy walked away from the flat and himself approached nearby officers.
He confessed to the killing, and showed them the shotgun.
The 39-year-old initially pleaded not guilty to murder, while accepting firearms-related charges.
However, he changed his plea to guilty in July, and yesterday was convicted of murder and handed a life sentence at London Crown Court.
He will serve at least 24 years and six months, before being considered for release, according to the Met.
Conroy was also given a five-year sentence for possession of a firearm, and six months for possession of an offensive weapon.
Leeann Foley was 32 years old, originally from Cork, and had been working in London as an accountant.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Julie Willats of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said:
I hope that today’s sentence brings Leeann’s family and loved ones them some measure of comfort and closure.
