THE TV BUILDING on RTE’s campus in Donnybrook was vacated this afternoon due to a bomb scare.
Shortly before 4.30pm staff in the TV building were told they had to leave the premises immediately because someone had made a threat against the building.
Gardaí from Donnybrook garda station and officers from the armed response unit attended the scene and carried out searches.
A spokesperson for the force noted that they did not order an evacuation of the building however the building was vacated by staff after the threat was made.
The Ray D’Arcy Show, which was on the air when the evacuation took place, continued to broadcast without interruption.
However the Lyric FM news bulletin, normally broadcast from a studio in the RTÉ newsroom, went to dead air.
There are several different buildings on the Donnybrook campus. The radio building, where D’Arcy’s show is broadcast from, was not affected by the bomb scare.
The situation was resolved a short time after 5pm and staff returned to the building.
“RTÉ can confirm that An Garda Síochana were on site this afternoon due to a security issue. RTÉ does not comment on security issues as protocol,” the broadcaster said in a statement.
The TV building houses RTE’s radio and TV newsroom as well as the large studio space where The Late Late Show is broadcast from.
