Cash, cigarettes and counterfeit vodka seized in Louth

A man in his 30s was questioned and investigations are continuing.

OFFICERS FROM REVENUE’S Customs Service, assisted by gardaí, seized cash, cigarettes and counterfeit vodka in two connected operations in Dundalk, Co Louth today.

A total of 672 litres of counterfeit vodka, 25,000 cigarettes and five motor vehicles were seized. The vodka had a retail value of €17,000 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €14,000.

The cigarettes seized included ‘Voxx’ and ‘Recquel Slim’ brands and have a retail value of €12,000 with a potential loss to the exchequer of approximately €9,000.

Officers also seized a six figure sum of cash including Sterling, Euro and a small quantity of US and Canadian dollars.

One man in his 30s was questioned and joint investigations by Revenue and gardaí are continuing.

Businesses and members of the public are being urged to contact revenue with any information they have about the sale of illegal cigarettes, tobacco or alcohol on 1800 295 295.
