Woman pushing pram struck by barrier at level crossing

Irish Rail is highlighting a number of incidents at level crossings – and urging people to obey the rules of the road.

IRISH RAIL IS highlighting a number of incidents involving pedestrians at level crossings – and urging people to obey the rules of the road, as they approach such intersections.

There were three pedestrian incidents at level crossings in the first five months of 2015, a spokesperson confirmed.

At Sydney Parade station in Dublin, a woman pushing a pram was struck by barrier.

On the northside of the city, a motorcyclist stopped in the yellow box at Sutton as the barrier came down and was struck by it.

And in Bray, Co Wicklow, a woman was struck on the head by the barrier.

“Thankfully none of  these incidents resulted in major injury but our message is clear, obey the rules of the road at level crossings to avoid injury,” the spokesperson said.

A level crossing safety drive was launched by the company in 2013. As part of the initiative an information booklet was produced, in addition to a 30 second radio ad to provide guidance to road users.
