Tonight will be bitterly cold, warns Met Éireann

Plus, see what’s happening on the other side of the Irish Sea.

SNOW MADE AN unlikely return to some parts of Ireland today – and more is expected later tonight.

Reports of snow across Donegal and sleet showers in Dublin have brought an end to a spell of gloriously sunny weather.

Met Éireann has warned that tonight will be bitterly cold with temperatures falling to below zero degrees Celsius in some spots. The forecaster predicts snow in places, mainly over mountains, which will lead to the odd accumulation.

Everywhere else will be “very frosty” with a risk of icy stretches.

Dry and clear conditions are expected in many inland areas but scattered showers will continue along Atlantic coasts. There could also be heavy showers of hail and sleet in many parts of east Leinster and Ulster.

Tomorrow will be another “very cold” day, according to the weatherpeople. However, we may experience some sunny spells between the showers of rain, hail and sleet.

Temperatures are expected to recover slightly by Thursday and Friday and dry conditions are predicted for the Easter weekend.

Meanwhile, the Arctic front continues to bore down on the UK, with parts of Scotland getting up to six inches of snow overnight:
